Chad A. Carder, a partner in Barrack, Rodos & Bacine, joined the firm in 2003.  Mr. Carder represents the firm’s institutional investor clients, including state, local, and union pension funds, in jurisdictions across the country. 

At BR&B, Mr. Carder has been a key member of the litigation teams that have prosecuted major securities class actions to their landmark conclusions, including In re WorldCom, Inc. Securities Litigation, before the Honorable Denise L. Cote in the Southern District of New York, which yielded a record-breaking recovery of $6.19 billion; In re American International Group, Inc. 2008 Securities Litigation, before the Honorable Laura Taylor Swain in the Southern District of New York, which after six years of intensive litigation resulted in a settlement of $970.5 million, which is among the largest recoveries ever achieved in a securities fraud class action stemming from the 2008 financial crisis; Pennsylvania Public School Employees' Retirement System v. Bank of America Corp., before the Honorable William H. Pauley, III in the Southern District of New York, which settled after nearly six years of intensive litigation for $335 million, also one of the largest class action settlements of securities purchaser claims brought as a result of the financial crisis of 2008; In re The Mills Corporation Securities Litigation, before the Honorable Liam O’Grady in the Eastern District of Virginia, which settled for $202.75 million, the largest securities litigation recovery ever in the Eastern District of Virginia; and In re Schering-Plough Securities Litigation, before the Honorable Katherine Hayden in the District of New Jersey, which settled for $165 million.

Mr. Carder also maintains an active complex litigation practice focused on a variety of other areas, and has participated in the successful prosecution of antitrust class actions;  shareholder derivative actions; policyholder actions against insurance companies, including “Senior Annuity” cases in which BR&B served as a co-lead counsel or participated in the prosecution group that asserted claims against insurance companies under consumer protection and elder abuse statutes and the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act; and data breach cases involving the misuse or improper disclosure of consumer data.  In addition to his representation of plaintiffs, Mr. Carder has also represented defendants in securities actions and in transactional litigation. 

Before joining BR&B’s Philadelphia office, Mr. Carder served as the judicial law clerk to the Honorable Michael J. Hogan of the New Jersey Superior Court.
