The National Association of Public Pension Attorneys, or NAPPA (www.nappa.org), selected an article by BR&B Associates Jordan R. Laporta and Andrew J. Heo for the latest edition of the NAPPA Report. The article, entitled “How Public Pension Funds Maximize Recoveries in Securities Class Actions and Minimize Corporate Misbehaviors” examines public pension funds’ involvement in securities litigation and discusses how public pension fund engagement in securities litigation is correlated with larger settlement amounts—even when controlling for institutional self-selection of larger cases. The article also reports that pension fund involvement in securities cases can result in greater returns to plaintiffs, improved corporate governance, and in some cases lower attorneys’ fees and highlights commentary from the judiciary on the work of public pension funds in leading securities cases to victory, lauding their efforts and crediting their involvement with successful resolution.
